Beovision 11 TV and the ML/MCL Converter Amplifier

Hi all, I wondered if anyone could help. Just before Christmas I ordered a ML/MCL Converterr amplifier to power some Beovox CX50's as rear channels with my BV11 TV in the living room Firstly I am hoping I have actually bought the right thing as I know there is also the Beolink Passive too, but I didn't think I actually needed that I have a 10 meter MK3 Powerlink to RJ45 Cable, but the TV is not sending the correct trigger to switch on the amplifier and it doesn't seem to detect it within the settings screen either. I found this article here - https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/powerlink-comptability/ which seems to indicate I need a MK2 Fully wired cable instead. Before I get too far into this I just wanted to ask if I buy the appropriate MK2 cable is the BV11 Going to actually work with this sort of cable? I can probably get a shorter cable run and just lengthen the speaker wires as I do see the MK2 cable seems to a quite a bit more expensive for a 10 meter run. Hope someone can assist   Thanks Ryan

Hi Ryan, check this thread about the trigger signal on the right pin: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beoplay-connection-hub-beolink-passive/ Could that be your issue? Regards, Johan

I happen to have a BV11-46 myself (only recently bought it in fact), and I have Mk2 Powerlink cables connecting it to my BL3000 and BL Penta speakers. I happen to also have an ML/MCL Converter and also happen to have a pair of CX50s, so I just disconnected the Pentas, and connected the ML/MCL Converter and the CX50s in their place.  Happily, I can tell you that the converter powered on, and the sound was heard from the CX50s. So, unless your ML/MCL converter is faulty, I would think this indicates that you just need a Mk2 Powerlink cable. As far as I know by the way, the Beolink Passive is basically the same thing as the ML/MCL Converter, just a later version with a new name.  Someone may correct me on that though.

Hi Charlie Thank you very much for that thats great to hear. I honestly didn't realise the MK3 cable wouldn't have worked (pin out is different to trigger the power on process) I only bought it cos they are nice and skinny and would have easily fit in bit of conduit I run around my living room door frame. In regards to adding the speakers within the settings on the TV. My BV has like a built in database of various Beolab speaker models. It has my Beolab 2 sub and Beolab 3 present, but I can't imagine it will have the MCL/Converter or Beolink passive, I couldn't see it anyway. I assume I would just need to select the "Other" option when adding the speakers. I assume it doesn't really make any difference and is more of away of just identifying what is plugged into the TV, rather than it assigning the amp/speakers a particular sound profile?

Yes, I selected 'Other' for my Beolab 3000s because they're not listed, being much older than the TV.  They work fine on that setting. My Mk2 cables are skinny, but they are round Powerlink plugs both ends.  I already had those cables, so when I bought the BV11, I bought some fully-wired (Mk2) RJ45-to-Round Powerlink adapters so I could connect them to the TV. You've also got me thinking - I could add the ML/MCL Converter and my Beovox CX50s as 'back' speakers in my surround sound setup.  I have centre, front, surround and sub speakers but could use that to add back-surround speakers too, creating a 7.1 setup. The room isn't really big enough to need back-surround speakers but I'm probably won't be able to help myself from trying it!  Come to think of it, I know I've got wall mounts for those CX50s somewhere...
